Their small budget and shortage of personnel makes it necessary to employ volunteers in different areas, from recreational activities up to health care. This experience will allow you to get to know and help out the people of the rural zone of the Andes.
You will work not only with children but also with their parents and other persons in the child’s surrounding.....(more information)

ORPHANAGES AND INFANT’S HOMES

These centers are located in the city of Huancayo. The children in the orphanage range from 0 to 17 years old and are placed in orphanage care for a number of reasons, including abandonment, protection against physical or sexual abuse, malnutrition, family poverty, and displacement from terrorism. With their turbulent pasts, these children are at risk to be uneducated, use drugs, enter into prostitution, become criminals and engage in acts of violence. Our work with these children helps increase their confidence and self-esteem, and gives them a better chance to escape poverty once they embark into their own lives outside the orphanage...... EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE IN THE VILLAGES OF HUANCAYO

Schools in the rural settings do not receive the same amount of attention and help as the ones in the cities. They are faced with a multitude of problems - logistical, economical and technical, and chronically suffer for personnel shortage. The education is kept at the very basic level and there is almost no possibility of any after-school activities which would allow children to develop their personal interests. Thus, the children attending these schools do not have the same opportunities as their peers in the cities. That is why we decided to work in these zones and to provide assistance where it is truly needed.

In after school programs and on an independent level this project helps children in reading, writing and with their homework.

The majority of the children have never had a proper childhood, and they need to learn to be children again, so that they can learn how to live in society. This could be done with activities in which they are encouraged to express and share their emotions.

Therefore we teach courses of English, arts, sports, outdoor activities etc. which will help the children to be more confident and sociable.

INSTALLATION OF CLEAN BURNING STOVES THROUGHOUT IN THE VILLAGES OF HUANCAYO

In many of the high-altitude communities in Iscos village, food is prepared over an open fire in the home.  Ventilation usually consists of a hole in the roof for the smoke to escape.  This however, is not a very efficient way to avoid smoke filled living conditions.  The result is a very unhealthy atmosphere for people to be cooking and living in because improper ventilation leads to a host of respiratory illnesses as well as eye maladies.  In addition, much of the wood used to fuel the fire is from native trees which are rapidly decreasing in number.  The cleaner burning stove project is the implementation of a stove that provides proper ventilation and burns wood more efficiently.

In order to address the issue of deforestation for fuel and health issues related to inadequate ventilation,
Esperanza Peru started the Clean Burning Stove Project. By installing fuel-efficient wood stoves with proper ventilation, Esperanza Peru staff and volunteers help reduce the amount of wood consumed by community members while simultaneously reducing illnesses related to smoke inhalation. An additional option is to work with local school children on Environmental Education fieldtrips....(more information)
